National Testing Agency has released the notification for JEE Mains 2019. If you have already started preparing for JEE then it’s time to give your preparation a stronger impulse. In case you didn’t start your preparation, do not panic. There is ample time to study. You can succeed if you maintain consistency in your preparation. Remember, this is the most crucial period in your life which takes you to greater heights. So, work hard with determination and none can stop you from succeeding. Have a look at the details given in the notification.
The details regarding the exam pattern, eligibility, last date to apply, etc. are explained in detail below.

Documents’ details:
Below are the details about the necessary documents to be uploaded.
- The requirement of Aadhaar card is mandatory to fill the application.
- Candidates are required to apply online for JEE Mains 2019 exam and hence there is no provision to send the hard copy of the application
- Candidates have to upload the scanned images of passport size photograph and signature of candidate & mother’s/father’s/guardian.
- Photograph size should be 10KB – 100KB and size of the signature should be 4KB – 30KB.
- The images should be in JPG or JPEG format.
- Multiple applications from a single candidate will be rejected.
Fee details:
- The application fee is different as per the categories and mode of examinations.
- Fee payment can be done through credit/debit card and net banking.
- Candidates can also pay the fee through e-challan of SBI bank.
- The fee will not be accepted through DD, money order, IPO, etc.
- The application fee is non-refundable.

Eligibility Criteria:
- There is no age limit to apply for JEE Main 2019.
- Candidates qualified in 10+2 or equivalent exam passed in 2017 and 2018 are eligible to apply.
- Candidates appearing in the 12th exams in 2019 can also apply.
- Diploma candidates can also apply but only for admission in IITs.
- There is no minimum mark required to apply for JEE Main.
- For admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, candidates have to secure 75% (65% for SC/ST) in 12th exams or be in top 20 percentile of the respective board.
- Candidates must have five subjects in the 10+2 exam to meet JEE Main 2019 eligibility criteria.
- Candidates should have physics, mathematics, language, anyone from the Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject, and any other subject.
- Candidates who have passed 12th exams in 2016 are not eligible to apply.
- Students who have appeared in 12th exams in 2016, did not pass in 2016 but passed in 2017 are not eligible to apply.
Mode of exam:
JEE (Main)-2019 will be conducted in the following mode:
(a) Paper-1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only.
(b) Paper-2 (B. Arch/ B.Planning): Mathematics- Part I and Aptitude Test-Part II in “Computer. Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test –Part III in “Pen & Paper Based” (offline) mode to be attempted on the drawing sheet.
Exam Pattern:
The examination comprises two papers, i.e. paper 1 (for B.E/B.Tech) and paper 2 (for B.Arch/B.Planing). The detailed JEE Main exam pattern for both papers is mentioned below:
- The examination will be organized in online (computer based) mode.
- The drawing test for Paper 2 will be conducted through offline mode.
- Type of Questions (Paper 1 – B.E./B.Tech): The question paper will comprise of objective type questions.
- Type of Questions (Paper 2 – B>Arch/B. Planning): Mathematics and aptitude section will be of objective type questions and drawing test will be subjective.
- Duration: The total exam duration will be three hours. The paper 1 will be conducted in two sittings, i.e. 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Paper 2 will be held in one shift only.
- Medium: The question paper will be asked in English, Hindi & Gujarati languages.
- Marking Scheme: Four marks will be provided for each correct answer.
- Negative Marking: One mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

New changes:
The following are the changes done in the exam and are being implemented from last year.
- There is no need to verify the 12th class roll number.
- For online mode exam, students are able to book their slot.
- Top 2.24 lakhs qualified students of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
- CBSE board has identified 258 exam centers which include 248 exam centers in India and 10 centers in abroad countries.
- NTA has set up 2,697 practice centers for JEE Main examination which will be available from 1st September 2018 on its official website.
- It will function on Saturdays and Sundays & candidates will get around an hour to practice with free of cost.
- A mobile application is being developed which will enable the students to choose the nearest TPC.
- From next year, NTA will start their teaching centers for JEE aspirants. They will not charge any fee for coaching.
Use of Calculator and Communication Aids
- Use of electronic devices like mobile phone, calculator etc. is NOT PERMITTED in JEE (Main) – 2019.
- Candidates are NOT allowed to carry Instrument/Geometry/Pencil box, Handbag, Purse, Any kind of Paper/ Stationery/Textual material (printed or written material), Eatables and Water (loose or packed), Mobile Phone/Ear Phone/Microphone/Pager, Calculator, Docu Pen, Slide Rules, Log Tables, Camera, Tape Recorder, Electronic Watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets etc. in the examination Room/ Hall.
- Diabetic students will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/orange) and transparent water bottle to the examination hall. However, they will not be allowed to carry packed foods like chocolate/candy/sandwich etc.
- Candidates must bring their own pencils, own geometry box set, erasers, color pencils and crayons for the Aptitude Test of Paper-2.
Status of receipt of Online Application Form with Fee:
- Information regarding the applications of candidates received with fees will be put on the NTA’s website on 17.12.2018 along with their Roll Nos, Centres, Date and Shift of Examination.
- The candidature of the candidate, whose fees have not been received up to the prescribed last date, will not be considered for the examination.
- In case the particulars of the candidate is not shown in the final list of candidates on the NTA’s website on 17.12.2018 and the candidate has paid the fee, the candidate should approach the Help Line between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from 17.12.2018 to 23.12.2018 with the following documents for considering his/her candidature for the examination:
- Proof of fee paid (Photocopy of transaction slip of fees paid through Debit/Credit Card and Net Banking). In case, the fee has not been remitted within the prescribed last date, the application would be treated as incomplete/unsuccessful and it shall not be considered.
- Print out of the Confirmation Page.
- No request regarding non-receipt of Online Application Form would be entertained by the NTA after 23.12.2018.
- Candidates are advised to keep visiting the NTA’s website regularly for latest updates.
- Candidates should check their e-mails on the given e-mail address and SMS in their mobile number for latest updates and information
